The end of January I was babysitting for a friend at her house when Brooklyn and her friend Reya went outside to jump on their trampoline. I was watching the whole time and Brooklyn got on jumped up once. landed, and fell forward screaming. I saw the jump so I didn't think anything of it. She was yelling for me to come. I had to put Avery down so I told her I'd be there in just a sec. Then the way she sounded I got scared and thought I was going to go out and see her legged snapped in half. I ran out and it looked fine. I carried her in and laid her on the couch. She stayed there the rest of the time watching everyone play. When we got home I laid her on my bed with a movie. Still not thinking it was serious. She didn't walk the rest of the day or the next two. She asked me one day if I would lay her in her bed and then play with her toys so she could watch! :) I would say that we should take her in, but then we kept thinking she'll be fine the next day. She started crawling around when she wanted to go somewhere. We bribed her with ice cream and chocolate if she would walk to us, and still no. That was a big sign! She started walking with a limp. Finally I took her to McDonald's to see if she would go play on the play place. She loves that. She started running to it and when she landed on her left leg she fell. So I called the Doc and took her right in. I felt bad I'd waited 6 days to go in, but the Dr told me a story about his daughter and how she had a broken arm for 10 days before he finally took her in for x rays. That is much worse, he's a doctor! :) Anyway we had x rays taken which showed swelling, but couldn't see a fracture. He said 40% of the time in kids it doesn't show up. He felt that she still had a toddler fracture, but said to just watch her over the weekend and if she was still limping we had to see the Orthopedic Specialist. We had to go see her and long story short Brooklyn got to sport a fun purple cast for 3 weeks.
She thought it was cool until we wouldn't take it off for her to go to bed. It took her 2 weeks to sleep through the night without waking up. It had to have been so uncomfortable for her. I also felt bad because the cast was slightly angled so she walked on her toes the whole time. I thought she was going to have a major calf muscle.
Last Thursday we went and had the cast cut off. The nurse told her the machine was going to be super loud and would tickle not hurt. Brooklyn was very brave and laughed through the whole time. It was so funny. Her face was so red from laughing hysterically. It was more of a nervous laugh, like she was told it was going to tickle so she didn't know what else to do. :)
Purple cast.
Showing her cast off.
Leaving to get the cast off! She's got her other boot ready :)
The nurse explaining what she's going to do.
She wanted to hold my hand. She's laughing, not crying.
Laughing.
Prying it open.
So happy to have it off.
Examining her leg.
Now checking out the cast. She then said "Ewe stinky!" :)
Going to the hot tub to celebrate with daddy!
(Avery was sick so I stayed in.)
